Bridge jumping from Mostar, Bosnia

Traditional jumping from the Stari Most bridge in the old town of
Mostar, Boznia and Herzegovina. Leaping from the bridge into the
Neretva river is a rite of passage for the town's young men, and
continues on despite the bridge's destruction during the Croat-Bosniak
War. Great video

  • Wow!!! Very well made. The triumph and will of the community to overcome such a horrible civil war. So many lives lost. God bless them

  • Beautiful vid. Glad to see life continuing in Bosnia. All wars are awful but that one particularly so.

  • Been to Bosnia-Herzegovina and loved it. Interesting place with great ppl and food. The smoking indoors can be a bit anoying, and these ppl smoke like chimneys.

Sarajevo is a very interesting place, with all the muslims and christians living side by side.

  • Nice looking place.
A lot of negative comments on here but get real.
Most of you have never lived in a town that was destroyed by war and your home bombed out.
They've done a nice job of rebuilding.

    • @TheRealVisionary in americant we dont need bombs to destroy homes.

we have criminal politicians to do it for us

  • Too bad this is somewhat propaganda-oriented, pathetic. If you gona make a video about the bridge then keep it at that. But now since the cat is out of the bag lets not forget that Bosnia was always Christian and that town was built by Christians and then taken over by the turks in the 15th century. Now they make it seem like it's just the muslim left overs form the ottoman empire that left traces there, no mention about true history of the place. All sides lost a lot in the war and I hate that More..

    • @Proud2bSaudi I am from there you assclown...you are a example of brainwashed biased media zombie...I dont expect you to understand it unless you truly research the history of the place. Regardless when the turks came it was either die or convert, the 400 years they were there almost 50% of populations was infected...

  • The few divers that this video finally got around to showing us were all highly trained, experienced divers. Not local boys, or youth, experiencing a "right of passage", whatever that means.

    • @skyhawk53

I'm sure the kijds still do it, the divers we saw did look like professionals but had huge crowds and judges scoring them.

I used to jump off a bridge into our local river as a kid but that has been stopped here due to the Health and Safety shit heads.

    • @skyhawk53 It sure takes some balls to jump. That bridge ist 62 ft high (19 Meters).

    • @skyhawk53 , Bro, I'm Bosnian and I can tell you that anybody can sign up for these jumps off of the bridge. If you've got the balls required, go ahead and sign up. The judges are just there to pronounce a final winner of the jumpers. Yes, theres some pro jumpers, but there are also many many amateur jumpers that jump off for the first time.

In real life, I am afraid of heights. My legs trembled while watching these kids.

Good observations. It did look like a big village festival of some sort. And having fun, as you did as a kid, is surely more wholesome and healthy than standing around on a street corner, looking buy or sell some "crack"! lol

  • A good video. It inspired a quick search on Live Leak for Mostar. The result is an excellent multi-part BBC documentary called "Unfinished Business - War In Mostar" The bridge plays a role in this video as well. Here's the link to part 1: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=f4d_1222913504

  • I am happy that they rebuild the bridge according to the way it was build originally by the Ottoman. It a beautiful construction and now the UNESCO inscribed the Old Bridge and its closest vicinity into the World Heritage List. Hopefully it a treasure that both side will preserve for ever.
