  • you know what really fucks with the mind? the fact that even if you can reach the speed of light without turning into pure energy, the stars around you would look exactly the same, but with a shift in color. the stars ahead would shift into the blue range, and the stars behind you would shift into the red, but they would certainly not stretch and streak like in the movies/star trek. at light speed, it would take you 12min to reach the sun.

    • @fha_dynamo Makes the case that they don't remain in normal space. The story would never work if they could only do light speed either. It would simply take to long to get anywhere.

      The second closest star to us is a bit over 4 light years away. So to travel between systems, even in the galactic core where stars are much more dense, they'd have to be traveling several times the speed of light.
