37X Background Radiation in 12:30pm STL Storms

The rain/storm from this morning ended at approximately 12:30pm. A swipe from our truck returned a reading 37x greater than background levels. A swipe taken 3 hours earlier returned a reading of 27x greater than background radiation. Our live outdoor airborne radiation monitor recorded an approximately 50% increase in background radiation.

A quick look at airborne radiation chart indicates that weather moved into the area around 5am with an initial peak in radioactivity that may represent local washout. From 6am to 12pm airborne radioactivity increased as the leading edge of the jetstream neared Saint Louis.

  • there is no real science here.
    I went here : http://www.physics.isu.edu/radinf/natural.htm
and a few other places but without knowing what the "normal" level is there's no way to tell if those reading are high, average, or low.

I found that on the subject.
"If we interpret continuous exposure as 8766 hours per year (24 hrs/day x 365.25 days/yr), 100 mrem/yr translates to 0.011 mrem/hr or 11 microrem/hr. This would be in addition to the natural background radiation which is quite variable but which averages about 300 mrem/yr or 34 microrem/hr."

    • @goervideos If this is to be used as evidence of nuclear fallout from Japan, I would like to know what the readings were where he is before the tsunami.

Prior to Fukushima, we occasionally ran the Geiger counter over rain on the car to see if there was any activity, and we never detected any.

After Fukushima, we ran the Geiger over some rain drops and noticed and increase in readings; that lead to the type of testing you see in the video.

The amount of radioactivity in the rainfall is tied to one's proximity to the Jet Stream.
