North Carolina, USA - "Barrel Monster Bust" (June 12, 2009)

"A North Carolina man is facing criminal charges for creating an amusing piece of public art from construction barrels. Joseph Carnevale, 21, was nabbed Wednesday after a Raleigh Police Department investigation determined that he was responsible for the work (seen below) constructed May 31 on a roadway adjacent to North Carolina State University. Carnevale, pictured in the mug shot at right, was charged with misdemeanor larceny for allegedly building his orange monster from materials pilfered from a construction site. According to an arrest warrant, Carnevale "destroyed three road blocking barrels by cutting and screwing them together to form a statue." Police estimated that Carnevale's artwork caused $360 in damages to Hamlett Associates, the North Carolina construction company that owned the barrels. Carnevale is scheduled for a July 21 court appearance in Wake County."

  • Well. It is a great prank. He's hardly a hardened criminal just for this. But, he knew he was committing vandalism, he took it upon himself. And the judgment is fair.

Misdemeanor larceny is nothing. But, it's the chance he took, he has nothing to be upset about.

    • I've never suggested anything but the rule of law. Because you think I respect the law, you think that means I support the death-penalty for petty vandalism.

It's sad, how far your brainwashing has detached you from simple reality... You're grow out of it.

    • You're empty distinctions are irrelevant, I don't support any of your criminals.

    • You whine and cry and go out of your way to defend thieves. I don't.

That's all people need to know in order to distinguish between pro-civilization (me) and pro-crime (you).

    • Is there a country in the world that doesn't use law to protect private property? What basis is there for your condemnation?

Anyone who pulls a prank like this, is fully aware of the potential consequences. Unless this guy is such a moron that he thinks nobody will mind when their property is hacked to pieces. In which case I would agree that he shouldn't be charged with a crime, but he should be committed to a psych ward as he is criminally stupid and a danger to society.

  • The company that owns the barrels should use this as its mascot. It would be the best use of the $360.00 at stake here, and be some shrewd marketing.

  • Belongs in a art studio, or the lobby of the company who owned the barriers. Not criminal court

    • Exactly. That company could take the ball and run with it. That is a freaking masterpiece and EVERY DRIVER that goes by is going to laugh. We already know the feeling we get when we go by one of them. Normally it means long waits.

    • No doubt.

If you're going to go to jail for larceny and vandalism, at least do it for something as completely awesome as this. This man is a legend in his own time, if only at North Carolina State.

....And Hypnojive2 should be banned for spam in comments on this thread. For him to leave such blanks after his comment is totally unnecessary.

  • I bet the number of motorists cheered up by it was more than worth the $360

  • I wonder why they arrested him instead of just fining him. Prior criminal record?
