    • Exactly! This whole idea of bailing out the free market is going to do nothing but keep Americans from helping themselves through tough times on their own and further rely of bigger Govt. Spoiled little brats is the perfect description of 54% of Americans.

    • sad to say but i think its true. gone are the days when cars were made to last longer then the buyer. where pride was put into making a fine automobile, and workers stood behind their product. Now, its all plastic-mobiles and about a union cut paycheck with benefits... 9-5.

We need to go back to the simple days. Back to basics as some would say. Hard part will be getting people to understand that they are nothing more then puppets for the big companies and their "But buy buy" attitude More..

  • Hope... Change... Yes we can't... I wonder how the guy's at Ford feel about their tax dollars funding the competition?

  • I didn't see the Ontario government supporting the province's pulp and paper industry ten years ago when it failed. I didn't see the province through the Bob Rae years propping up the pulp and paper workers pensions, or offering help to the thousands of paper sector workers.
There were many, many more paper sector workers who lost everything after the collapse of Ontario's pulp and paper making went into the ditch.
And now, my tax dollars are being spent supporting auto workers who wouldn't ta More..

  • GM has some good products. I just don't think they advertised or marketed products very well. The Pontiac G8 was a highly rated product but no one ever heard of it.

  • Of the "big three" I think Ford was the smartest of them. During their fat years they bought out foreign car makers like Mazda, Saab and Jaguar. Now that the crunch is here they are selling off their foreign brands in an attempt to stay afloat domestically. But, just like the other two, they will have to rethink their business strategy just to stay afloat.

  • The auto industry basically killed itself by flooding the market. I'm sure this is already being done to some extent, but they should make cars to order. Why have a bunch of same model cars with varying options, colors, etc on display in hopes of getting at least one buyer when if a custom order car will sell right away and take up less room than the hundreds of cars on display? Sure it may take a little extra time for the car to be delivered to the buyer, but all that time, resources, etc saved More..

  • lots of canadians will lose their jobs because of GM.

Even more are going to lose jobs due to the trade wars Obama is starting up with Canada.

    Change...indeed.

    • Everyone loses. Thousands of jobs have already been lost over the last few years. Best to stay optimistic though, even though shit happens, our economies always bounce back.

  • Why is everyone so suprise? This is what happends when when a company is controlled by The United Automobile Workers Union. In California, every public school is controlled by unions and we're having school, after school being closed. Why? because there's not enough money! There's never, never enough money to keep things working. I thought that the whole idea of unions and politicians getting involved in corporations was to save jobs, but instead they're being lost.

My next car will be a Toy More..

  • Canada waists 11 BILLION each and every year on indian affairs, and there is no money to prop up a company that actually employs working people.

  • Too bad, so sad!
geee just think if gm had not been so greedy and mass produced the EV1 instead of burying it then they would be on top of the heap.
instead they made the hummer, a gaudy consumptive irresponsible choice.

I say let the business that make stupid decisions fail! plain and simple.

    • Very true. And why was the hummer unleashed on the public? Because Iraq War was in, and republican superhero now Cali Gov. Schwarzenegger helped push the product.

  • What are the Canadian's bellyaching about? The US taxpayer is already on the hook for more than $50 billion and will pay another $25billion more yet it will probably still fail.

    • We have a population of one tenth that of the US so when we spend 10 billion it like the US spending 100 billion. We also have a tenth of the jobs depending on this. Hurts all 'round though for both our countries.

  • UAW ruined GM, these people make too much money to do a brainless job, its that simple. these a**holes voted obama in office i hope every f**king one of them loose there jobs i would never purchase a GM,FORD or Chrysler there all garbage

  • I will never purchase a GM vehicle as long as the government controls it instead of the free market. I hope GM fails and fails miserably.

You can bank on GM being one of the tools the govt uses to try and force the 'go green' crap down our throats. Force production of dinky, POS, green autos, subsidize the price using US tax dollars to make green purchases more palatable, drive fuel prices up to further force the lemmings over the green cliff.

  • Why shock? The liberal Democrats and UAW have been trying to destroy Detroit and the automakers for years. Now they own them and it will be more screwed up. Let Obama, the kid, and the UAW explain to the workers why they are going to lose their jobs permanently. Obama gave a speech last week in LA and said the economic crisis was over and everything was well on it's way to recovery. What an ass.
