    • @ClearMud

      let's not forget
all vehicles, especially aircraft as they can be used as a weapon, & anything that would pose a biological threat (IE cows as they may harbor anthrax)

    • @ClearMud Well, I do think "Crazy People" should be banned.. But other than that - you're listing stuff that are usable for other things than killing people. Assault weapons, not so much.

I'm saving my thoughts for the Sunday discussion I think. And no - I'm not Sweden, I'm from Sweden but I am an individual and think this is an interesting question/debate if it's possible to hold the debate on a higher level.
I do believe in statistics. But I don't believe banning guns in America w More..

  • it is a mental health issue, the young man was troubled; unfortunately no one intervened, & the consequences speak for themselves

  • Imagine the United States were dissolved into 50 separate countries. Mass murders would be unheard of in most countries. But because it's one country, it seems like it happens every day. It doesn't. People need to accept that in an affluent country, crazies have the means to hurt a lot of people. It just doesn't happen very often, fortunately. No changes to the laws or to society are needed.

  • I know the US is big on guns. And no matter how I say it, I'm sure I'll get a down vote or 20. But I'll leave you with this...

I don't own a gun. I've never even held one. Don't ever care too.

    Consider the following.

I'll walk my walk in life everyday knowing that at some point, I might run into a situation that having a gun to protect myself or family/friends would be a really handy thing to have.

But I'll trade that in a heart beat, to live each day to its fullest and not live in fear EA More..

  • I don't know cannoli you say that cc wouldn't have been helpful in OR or CO because of crossfire. I would be happier(not that getting shot is what you would pick)to catch a stray bullet from someone shooting back as opposed to waiting and praying the shooter kills someone else.
I know that this is a serious post but all I can think of when I watch you is "Hand me the uzi, you didn't think I was rolling out here naked"

  • Just for once I'd like to see the issue addressed of why someone does this. Every time it's all about " guns" The real problem is what goes on in someones mind to do something like this. There should be more focus on identifying the warning signs, mental issues etc

  • I just wish retards , crazy ones & gang/criminal culture types would stop shooting people. That would knock out a lot of this madness with guns.

    • @dr tipple

I hear ya. I'm all for owning guns and all, but there is no denying there is something different/wrong going on in our culture. Fucking death and violence is an everyday thing here! And this last incident just crosses the fucking line....something needs to fucking change. And quick

  • The discussion that needs to take place should be about mental health and not about gun ownership or gun laws. The common denominator in most of the mass killings recently is young males who are mentally disturbed, deranged, psychotic, etc. Our politicians as well as the mainstream media become obsessed with going after the lawful gun owners but fail to address the real problem in the America.

  • Are there any answers, or have we gone past the tipping point ?
If all gun production was stopped tomorrow we would still have 300,000,000 weapons in our country.

Thank you for your rational viewpoint and I hope that any future discussion we have as a nation will be the same.

  • I don't buy the simple minded "he was just a psycho" line. I think we need to figure out how and why this happens. It is disappointing how little is done to study this type of behavior. Meanwhile we keep suffering without a solution. And I am NOT going to ever support locking down our schools with armed guards like you know big brother would love.

  • You do not get chaos and everybody shooting at everybody when someone draws a weapon to stop an attacker. You do however suddenly gain their attention and prevent more loss of life and stand a chance at stopping the event before it gets worst. It is undeniable a weapon used in defense concealed or not would have changed the outcome of each and every public shooting in history.

    • @StormRising I'm not convinced the 20 year old guy with mental issues really thinks twice about his massacre because somebody he's shooting at might shoot back. Most of these cowards kill themselves. So then, where's the deterrent? It doesn't matter in his sick and twisted mind. If mental health is the #1 issue here (which I believe it is) they aren't in their right mind enough to care who tries to stop them.

      Posted Dec-15-2012 By

    • @The_Stressman At that point, the weapon is not about being a deterent. It is about saving your life and others. Plain and simple. Over thinking the fact a gun IS self defense will only lead to not defending yourself in time.

      Posted Dec-15-2012 By

    • @StormRising I'm all for guns. But I'm also for understanding the mind of the mentally deranged. They aren't weighing shooting up a shopping mall versus not shooting up a shopping mall because somebody might be armed. That's all I'm saying. That kind of calculated decision making process isn't part of the equation when you're dealing with someone who is hearing voices in their head.

  • I have one gun for hunting fowl, one for big game, one for home defense and one for target shooting.

I feel for those that lost their lives yesterday. I cant imagine getting a call to come pick up your child at school and not find them in the crowd...

I know the anti gun people will be raising hell. Hell will be raised when the citizens don't have the power to defend themselves against the people who done care about laws... Or dont care about that school full of children...
