DC Dec 2 Critical Mass bike ride "Repost for Commenting"

On the 2nd of December, Critical Mass DC took to the streets for a ride
delayed a week from November 25 due to the holiday. Critical Mass
normally rides on the last Friday of every month in DC now, just like
everywhere else.

The ride was a little smaller due to the out-of-schedule timing, but energetic and unusually long.

At one point, riders visited the National Christmas Tree, at the price
of minor harassment from a Secret Service traffic cop on the way out. As
riders headed into traffic, I heard a "where do you think you're going"
from out of sight and pushed forward, but not in time to see the start
of the incident. Once all riders were past the fence, his orders to stay
in bike lanes and comply with traffic lights were ignored. Outnumbered
at least 30-1, he made no further attempt to press matters.

That was near the beginning of a ride that visited the Capitol
Reflecting Pool, and then rode as far as 13th st NE before eventually
heading back to DuPont Circle. Some riders even planned to go back out,
for a ride through Georgetown by an area known as "the cliff," but I was
done for the evening and out of time at that point.
