Warmest years according to whom? And I'm a big fan of Bill Nye, but correlation does not equal causation. Subtract his bias, and he would acknowledge that.
It's the sun.

@ST0N3PONY
I'd like to know where he got his data too. This is the closest thing I could find:
[source: noaa.gov]
"In the contiguous United States, 2010 was the 14th consecutive year with an annual temperature above the long-term average. Since 1895, the temperature across the nation has increased at an average rate of approximately 0.12 F per decade."

The sun is the source for almost all the heat on Earth. But without an atmosphere, the Earth would be an iceball. Add an atmosphere and greenhouse gasses and you retain that heat. Water vapor is by far the biggest contributor to the greenhouse gasses, but CO2 is also a greenhouse gas and fills the gaps in the IR wavelength that let's heat escape. The big concern with climate change is hitting a tipping point where the Earth continues to heat for a long time. Warmer oceans cannot abso More..

@Lazerhead IMO, the biggest concern is pushing biased political nonsense through without the objective science to support it.
Why do you think the particle physicists at CERN were hit with a gag order after determining that it was almost all due to the sun? Why do you think all of the dissenters are either retired or tenured?
To stop the biased funding from drying up.

New paper finds wildfires in the western US are at the lowest levels in 3,000 years
Abstract excerpt:
Long-term perspective on wildfires in the western USA
By Jennifer R. Marlona et al.
Abstract
Understanding the causes and consequences of wildfires in forests of the western United States requires integrated information about fire, climate changes, and human activity on multiple temporal scales. We use sedimentary charcoal accumulation rates to construct long-term variations in fire during t More..

@copperdog3
Interesting. But how much of that "deficit" do you think is due to that fact that we now actively and with increasing efficacy minimize or prevent fires?

@Lazerhead
I agree we work hard at stopping fires. But, when nature decides to cut loose, there's not much we can do. The paper does mention human intervention as a factor in the reduction. That said, drier years produce more spectacular, photogenic fires but, according to the paper, the frequency is lower than it was.

If Bill Nye the liberal guy shut his mouth there would be much less hot air.
I'm Bill Nye, I'm not an expert but I wear a silly tie and my eyebrows are crazy, believe what I tell you!!

Let me guess : no, it doesn't. It's humans, or lighting, that cause wildfires. But the extended drought _may_ fuel the intensity/duration of the fires.
In other words : shitty reporting.

@ATministraitor don't you think that maybe global warming is one of the factors of the drought???

CNN couldn't give 2 shits about global warming or the fires. This was just their chance to harangue the person being interviewed. Bill handled her insult well. I just wonder where a god damned reporter gets off telling Bill fucking Nye that he doesn't know what he's talking about.

FFS,wildfires are a natural occurring event the world over and have been for millennia.
Human intervention ,clearing, fire breaks etc,is what has reduced the frequency ,usually resulting in more catastrophic events when they do happen and ,of course, people building in areas prone to these events.
