Liberalism at its best folks. I guess killing 259 civilians isn't a big deal anymore. After committing a heinous crime clearly deserving of crucifixion, the liberal Brits decided to set this low-life free because they feel bad for him. What a smack in the face to the families of the victims.
EDINBURGH, Scotland – The Scottish government says it will release Lockerbie bomber Abdel Baset al-Megrahi on compassionate grounds to allow him to return to Libya to die.
Justice secretary Kenny MacAskill said Thursday that there had been a significant deterioration in the health of al-Megrahi, who is suffering from terminal prostate cancer.
MacAskill says he is conscious that there "were deeply held feelings and that many may disagree."
Al-Megrahi was convicted in 2001 of taking part in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 on Dec. 21, 1988. He was sentenced to life in prison.
The airliner — which was carrying mostly American passengers to New York — blew up as it flew over Scotland. All 259 people aboard and 11 on the ground died when the aircraft crashed into the town of Lockerbie.

I dont agree with this mans release (Im scottish) but there is more going on here than we are privvy to. When the UK goverment agreed terms on prisoner exchange programs with libya the Scottish govmt requested that there be a exclusion to anyone conivicted over the locherbie boming; the british goverment ignored there request thus leaving open that route to him.

this guy was not sentances to death, nor life in prison.
He was sentanced to 27 years.
He was 8 years into his 27 year sentance.
His life is virtually over. (months to live)
I don't give a damn about him.
But if his release buys us something, and in the end, saves future lives, I'm all about making the smart move here.
Its easy for me to say let him rot, but if he is near death, and he we can trade him for somthing useful, I think that is a 'twofer'.

Additional information. There is a black box and information always on display at Glasgow Transport museum. Oceanic near prestwick Airport has the flight tape on display in their offices. I watched the plane as Lockerbie bomber Abdel Baset al-Me More was set free!!! The weather was bad,but if Ibhad a rocket launcher in my hamd he would have got the same as what he gave out!! hope his plane blows up on the way home!!!!
