Updated: Libyan community wants 'new people' at embassy 4Print Email Monday, August 22, 2011, 11:00 Updated: Libyan community wants 'new people' at embassy [*] [/*][/list] The Libyan independence flag was today raised on the Libyan ambassador's residence in Madliena, and a spokesman for the Libyan community in Malta said that they would like to see 'new people' at the Libyan embassy.
A spokesman for the community said the flag was hoisted in agreement with the ambassador, Saadun Suayeh, who is currently in the UK.
He said that Mr Suayeh had congratulated them.
The spokesman said the ambassador is expected to temporarily stay in office, but the community expected to see 'new people' at the embassy.
The independence flag was hoisted at the Libyan embassy at about midnight last night when the green flag of the Libyan regime was taken down and set on fire.
The green flag at the ambassador's residence was similarly set on fire this morning.
The independence flag was also hoisted at the Libyan school in Ta' Giorni and the Mosque in Corradino.
This morning a group of some eight members of the Libyan community called at the Libyan school. They picked up every copy of the Gaddafi 'Green Book' and any picture they could find of the former Libyan leader and set them on fire. There was no vandalism of the school.
