Penn Hills Student With Eyebrow Trimmer Suspended

PENN HILLS (KDKA) ―

A Penn Hills Middle School student has been suspended for bringing an eyebrow trimmer to school.

Under the Safe School Act, the district says the instrument is a razor and is considered dangerous.

They suspended 15-year-old Taylor Ray-Jetter.

The instrument was taken from Taylor's purse at school by security guards. She told them it was harmless but they called it a weapon.

Taylor was immediately suspended and was expelled Wednesday.

The punishment has her worried about her future.

"I want to be an anesthesiologist –a nurse anesthetist and I feel like it's going to be on my record so it's going to dampen a lot of things I wanted to do for myself and I'm very upset," she said. "I did not come up there to hurt anybody."

Taylor is a member of the basketball team, 9-year Girl Scout, a youth usher, a member of the choir and leadership team, among other activities.

The superintendent says the tool is a weapon and Taylor's punishment is all apart of a very strict zero tolerance policy.

  • The way these zero-tolerance policies are administered really only highlights these administrators' zero-tolerance for common sense.

They have no tolerance for accepting the responsibility of making a decision--a judgement call.

  • - the end of it doesn't look pointed but you can't tell because the genius holding it for the picture is covering the end of it

    - maybe suspension. banning her from that school altogether is unreasonable and overdoing it -- american politics as usual (respond with overwhelming force)

  • A guy was kicked out of my high school in his senior year for leaving an unloaded paintball gun in the back seat of his car in the parking lot. Somebody saw it and called authorities. The school considered it a gun...

I hate crazy school officials on some sort of power trip who enjoy fucking up people's lives.

  • Thank God she didn't have have nail clippers, they would have shut down the neighborhood before zapping her with a tazer & hauling her away in cuffs for 30 years of hard labor.

Some things just go so far and above common sense it really makes you wonder how they got their jobs. Is being born a moron one of the job prerequisites??

  • get real.
weapon or not, she's going to school.
do your eyebrows before you go,i mean you spend enough time in the bathroom in the mornings to do so.
imagine her as your anesthesiologist, sorry he died but i was busy doing my eyebrows??
and yeah, about the lighters,i used to joke at checks, "carry any weapon sir? no, just a lighter.
i would suggest everyone should be made to leave home naked.

  • Jesus. I can sort of understand a zero tolerance policy but expulsion? Hell, you could hit someone over the head with a textbook. Should it be considered a weapon as well?

  • Where do you draw the line? Everything is a weapon.

I go through security lines at the airport with my carry-on that has my nail clippers, I've never been questioned or stopped.

For Christ's sake, a credit card can be dangerous, just sharpen each corner and it can cut a persons throat like a knife.

Eyebrow trimmer, High School, give me a break.

  • It looks like a knife, but it's not. Stupid school, stupid decision.
