I have to say. Ive been a biker for years and have been to many of these meets. But I could never understand why you would want to ruin a $400 tire.
I enjoy some of the rides, competitions, and so forth, but never a burn out "pit" as some of them do.

@private joker I mostly ride my Ultra Classic Electra Glide. When the wife is with me. The rear tire on it is every bit of 4 bills. The rear on an older Road King (stripped with solo seat) is about 3 bills.
We travel lots and new tires every year. Taking that and a new battery and tune ups can eat nearly a grand every year. It sucks. Then we get into, "Honey, my helmet had a minuscule scratch on it so while you were gone today, I ordered new ones for both of us". Or the best one was, More..

@private joker Oh I understand. Last year I bought a 2009 Yamaha FJR1300 from a friend going thru a nasty divorce. I have never owned a sport bike, let alone a "Jap" bike. I have to admit it was a nice bike. A crotch rocket with bags and trunk is all it was. I had to put new tires on it, about $350 installed, and rode it for a summer on and off. I did take it "solo" thru Deals Gap, Tail of the Dragon and it did a great job. I sold it back to him after things were all said and More..

I actually love a race, but I hate to lose. Generally I would have to say that going fast isnt really that fun, in a decent car it can actually be quite nerve racking. Add in other cars and racing can actually be so god damned frustrating....
My idea of fun is getting in something and driving it till it breaks, then hoping out and walking away.

Hell yeah, I'll race ya. mine isnt the twin cam, but the motor was a donation from a mate who upgraded to a cosworth sierra. Still, I got the dual carb, headers and few things done to the motor. Think he said it had oversized valves and a shaved head. Suspension has also been tweaked and the wheels upgraded to 13's. On a nice windy country road its cruises at 80mph, so that'd wanna be one pretty sweet Jeep.

My Dad rides, I drive. Bikes are gay. Too much temptation, Too many things to go wrong. Cars are faster, more powerful, safer, they sound better and they rip a better skid!
The only exception is off road. Bikes can easily (and cheaply) get to places that other stuff cant, so they have a bit of an advantage there.
So yeah, to answer your question. Yes, this is what they consider to be fun. To be surrounded by people who think alike and enjoy themselves

To true, No one screaming in your ear would be a bonus I guess. I just know how much of an idiot I can be and for that reason I never got my bike licence. I've had my learners for over 10 yrs, but every time I ride on the road I treat it like the back paddock, or get bored and start wishing I was in a comfy car. My old boy has riden forever though, so I do kinda get it, it just doesnt do it for me :/
