Two arrested after Occupy DC pitches tents at Merril Lynch

Congressman Darryl Issa, the man responsible for the police raid on
Occupy DC, has huge investments in Merril Lynch, which seems to be his
fountain of campaign cash as well. As a result, Occupy DC decided to
punish Merril Lynch for funding Darrel Issa's anti-occupy politics.

From a little after 8PM until about 11:30PM, Occupy activists were on
the sidewalk in front of Merril Lynch with the intention of establishing
a new Occupy camp right in front of the builidng! Tents were pitched
and sleeping bags, etc moved in. It took about an hour for the police to
show up, and then it took them another hour or so to find any law
prohibing the setting up of tents on the sidewalk. They finally found a
late 19th century law and threatened arrests if tents were not removed.

At this point, good tents were removed and an expendable tent was set
up-and two people moved into it in an act of civil disobediance. They
were arrested and the tent taken by the cops at 10:55 PM, over 2 1/2
hours after first setting up.

It may seem odd to stage an action outside a corporate target at night,
except for one thing: This was not just a protest, but a new Occupy camp
setting up. If people are going to sleep in tents, this is generally
done at night.

The tactic of going after a target's source of financing seems to have
originated decades ago with FBI campaigns against the Mafia, and later
was adopted by animal rights activists against Huntingdon Life Sciences
or HLS. Now Occupy has taken up the "follow the money" tactic against
those who are supporting terror raids against Occupy with their money.
There is an intersting sidenote to the Mafia comparison: Occupy activsts
are reporting that Darrel Issa started out as a car thief before moving
on to politics!
