According to British Transport Police (BTP), the owner of the phone is a 34-year-old woman from East Molesey.

She went to collect her bag from Guildford station and found a note from Mr Parker explaining why her phone was missing. She then called BTP to report the incident.

Detective Sergeant Daren Bates said: “We’d like to thank Mr Parker for bringing this to our attention and pay tribute to his quick-thinking in capturing this man’s actions on video.

“The incident is being investigated and we’ll do all we can to identify the man responsible for this very shameless and brazen theft.

“If you recognise the man pictured in the image, or have any information that could assist our investigation, we want to hear from you.”

UPDATE 2: 21-year-old Ross Heckman, from Addlestone was arrested on Monday (February 13) on suspicion of theft before being taken to a police station in Victoria, central London, where he admitted the offence.The man was handed a caution with conditions that he pay the victim £499, write her a letter of apology and not commit any further offenses before June 14 this year.
