Originally aired from 1957 to 1968. There was a resurgence in popularity for the character, so in 1988 there was a new incarnation of the series made by Lorimar Telepictures. As well as new episodes and characters many of the old episodes from the 50's and 60's were re-broadcast with new soundtracks and voice overs. All total there are around 233 episodes and a feature film!

You might recognize the animation in Gumby as similar to another early Sunday stop motion animation classic called Davey and Goliath. That's because both series were animated and directed by Art Clokey. (Don't worry I have Davey and Goliath and will be posting that intro also) Gumby got it's start with a couple of pilot episodes on The Howdy Doody show.

These two intros to the show are from 1967 and 1988 respectively. I included both just in case you didn't catch the original show and grew up on the 80's version which is still retro.

The corn flakes commercial came from the late 50's when Gumby was broadcast, that's why it's in B&W though Gumby was always broadcast in color as far as I know.

The Franco American Spaghetti commercial was broadcast in the 70's, the period between Gumby's original run and the 80's version. Sort of like we are fast forwarding in time as the channel changes to get us from the 60's to the 80's. (Chalk it up to artistic license) Pay attention to first mate Mr Jones who yells for the captain. That's actor Gordon Jump better known as Arthur 'Big Guy' Carlson from WKRP in Cincinnati.

The "This is your brain on drugs" PSA was from the latter Gumby time period in 1988. Yes there was intent when I put a classic anti drug PSA at the end of Gumby intros for laughs.
