Your Say: Politicism vs Patriotism On The 4th Of July
 Part of channel(s): Yoursay (promoted)

I'm happy to see Obama or any politician lampooned on just about any other day of the year... but the 4th is about patriotism, not politics.

If we can't put aside our differences for even one day a year... to celebrate our great nation... then what hope do we have?

  • modern day politicians should keep thier faces and names far away from the 4th of July. they belittle the memory of what it stands for. keep politicians on the fucking idiotbox where they belong.

  • Lol, looks like you stirred up a hornets nest, EH (looking at comment below).

I agree with you. Wrong time and place.

  • I think its a shame we can't seem to act like adults or evolve and learn from past mistakes and abuses. Seems to be the same old shit over and over, nothing changes. Sad really, really sad.

  • Star who?
I avoid political fux of both sorts here... 98%.

I agree. It was lame. Even if It were something pertaining to Bush years ago ... I'd type the same thing.

Same here, Bro. I'd have made the same YS if it had been democrats wearing Mitt Romney masks and handing out pink slips to the crowd.

It's not about which side did it... it's about hijacking a day of national celebration for petty political sniping.

Most parade floats are a form of advertizing. Parade organizers encourage it or there wouldn't be a parade. The question is whether or not the ad comes in an appropriate form.

  • ---politics has become a sport--entertainment--too many are superficial in its treatment---we all face as a society serious issues regardless of individual identity--but we want clowns and carnival acts in math and english class---they have every right to express themselves so--and we have every right to tell them they are ill informed and wrong---

  • The Obama gag in Utah wasn't appropriate.

Politics is indeed practiced on Independence Day. But the unwritten rule is to keep it positive. In my town, every local elected official borrows a friend's convertible, puts a sign on it, and sits atop the back seat waving his way down the parade route. If he happens to encounter the guy he is running against in November, it's smiles and handshakes no matter how much he hates the other guy. It actually picks up on an old European tradition prohibiting More..

Thanks John... I knew you would have the integrity to separate what's funny from what's appropriate.

Hell, even the Germans and Brits had a Christmas eve cease fire in 1914, where they exchanged gifts, held joint burials for their dead and sang Christmas carols together. If we as Americans can't bury the hatchet at least one day a year and come together, I don't see much hope in ever getting anything accomplished.

Thanks again for your comments... interesting stuff.

  • NUT BAG!

Did you forget the last 8 yrs of the Bush admin?
Movies about him being gunned down, senators implying he did 9/11 on the senate floor. being called Nazi and hitler all the time?

I fought for your rights to say stupid shit.......SAY WHAT YOU WANT

    • @Reconmarine

First... none of that happened during a 4th of July parade, so your point is moot.

Second, thanks for your service... but you didn't fight for my right to do shit. I had those rights before you were born. You fought for a bunch of raghead's rights, not mine.

So I'll say what I want, with or without your permission.

    • @Reconmarine I appreciate your service but lets be real here. You fought for corporate interests, plain and simple. Our rights were given to us long before your fathers balls dropped.

-I appreciate your service and what these other idiots here (eventhorizon, dearleader) don't realize is that freedom must be constantly maintained by people like you serving our country and people like me supporting you.

LMFAO..... and how exactly is it that you help maintain our freedom by sitting on your ass behind a computer?

  • well in a way i can understand why they did this in many ways Obama is destroying what america stands for that beacon of democracy, progress and freedom which is what is basically celebrated in the 4th of july it is a celebration of the love that you have for this country and democracy so i can understand the reason why they are doing this.
