Alice, Texas-Alice Police Chief Danny Bueno described a saddening scene this morning as his officers found three murder victims stabbed to death at a home on St. Joseph Street.
Officers were called out to the home around 3:30 am. Once there they found the body of 20 year old Ivan Hughes on the sidewalk. A trail of blood lead officers to go inside the home where they found the body of 15 years old William Hughes. The younger boy is said to have been disabled and was wheelchair bound.
Their mother, 41 year old Michelle Hughes, was found next door on the front porch as officers searched for potential witnesses. All three victims were stabbed multiple times.
Roughly six hours later Felix Chapa, 24 was arrested at his home on College Street. He has been identified as Michelle hughes’ common-law husband. Police say Chapa appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of his arrest.
Chapa is now in the Jim Wells County Jail charged with three counts of capital murder. Chapa is a U.S. Army veteran who returned from an overseas deployment within the past year. The stabbings are believed to have been sparked by a domestic argument. Texas Rangers and the personnel from the Corpus Christi Police Department are assisting in the investigation.
This is not the first tragedy to strike the Hughes family. Michelle’s uncle, Enrique Hughes, was stabbed to death and decapitated by two men in Jim Wells County back in 2008.
