1947 Chevy C.O.E. (Cab over engine)

1947 Chevy C.O.E. (Cab over engine) .

Chevrolet changed about mid year 1947 over to new body style , After the war the manufactures used old bodys and equipment from pre world war II , until they could tool back up for civilian vehicles.

I've heard that this was the Art Deco era , but I cannot confirm that.

According to the C.C.C. ( Civilian Conservation Corps or better known as the Colossal Collage of Callouses) cir. 1933 , the average height and weight for a man at that time was 5'-8" and 145 lbs.

So before you go and buy one of these trucks , make sure you can fit into it , it's cramped , like fitting 10 lbs of S#*t into a 5 lb bag.

Plans to turn into Hot Rod car hauler . real cool body style , waterfall grill , bucket head lights.
Original 230/235 cid. 6 cyl. with up draft carburetor , modified for downdraft , explains cut in engine cover pan.
Crank out front split window , vacuum operated two speed split axle.
Previous owner shortened it for towing mobile homes. Brought back from Oklahoma , must have been a hot ride with the cut out in the floor pan.

Real chick magnet , they like to go for rides!

Yea those straight sixes are good motors!
The Chevy has a 250 , 292 , and some earlier cid's ,they are very dependable engines , the good thing about those sixes is that they do not have a timing chain to wear out , they are gear to gear , crank and camshaft.
As long as you never over heat them , or run them out of oil , you will have a very reliable motor!

  • Beautiful design, they just don't make them like that any more, it's a shame that.

Yea , that's a cool old truck . I think the quality and style will hopefully return full circle , when people get tired of the boring and mundane designs we have today!

No , first of all , I took that video as a farewell to that ol sweety , and to have for my archives.

And the inspiration for my avatar is an interesting one , that you might like to check out.

      Google .... Somerost1 , or Somerost2

I have no way of sending you the link , so you will have to Google it.

Go down to "Web Results" and you will see the listing that says Somerost1 , free trial , click on that , then wait for it to load.

  • Looks in pretty good shape. Better buy that and refurbish before somebody beats you to it!

  • American cars and trucks from about 1925 until 1960 were influenced by the ideas of the Art Deco style. Some of those ideas have been re-introduced in the past decade so seeing this old beauty is very cool. Check out the Toyota Hi-CT concept truck for a retro example inspired by that old Chevy.

    • @Nepean109 I forgot what movie I just saw (maybe a preview on a bluray for) that had these art deco trucks in it. When I say preview I think it was for a movie that had been out within the last couple years - not upcoming.

That Hi-CT did nothing for me.

  • It looks like the scary truck from Jeepers Creepers ;)

    Posted Aug-8-2012 By

    • @PyneOil

That's right it's the same truck only the Jeepers truck had a box on the back , looked military.

Those trucks were geared for pulling and hauling , not for highway speeds , so the cannibals must have had a souped up version to be able to out run those kids.

I love the way those old cabovers look. Don't let this one go. Is that a fuel tank behind the cab?

      Posted Nov-28-2012 By

    • @neshobanakni

Yea these old cab overs are quite the characters.

Yes ,the guy I got it from used it as a toter , he added that tank , towed mobile homes back in Oklahoma , then he drove out to Arizona.
I have since sold that truck because it was really cramped inside , I have another truck that I am planning on restoring when I get my current project finished , a forklift.

This video was an homage to my owning it , and a record for my archives.
