Movie Trivia...

Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor were the greatest comedic duo of all time. In this clip, Gene is deaf, and Richard is blind. One of the all-time-great comedies. See it if you haven't.

QUESTION: Name the four movies that they starred in together.

And, for the bonus points, name the other movie they were going to star in together. It fell through because of Pryor's drug and alcohol abuse on set.

    • @raindog309 If you're over 85 years old and judging with heavy slanted nostalgia...

It's a matter of opinion though. The French think Jerry Lewis making dumb faces and dumb voices and getting hit with a pie is the greatest comedy ever.

Wilder and Pryor were actually acting, and writing amazing material, not just slipping in the mud and making a goofy surprised face.

  • There's Stir Crazy which was great.

Silver Streak which I wasn't so big on.

That's all I got for starring together.

Damn damn damn. I know the bonus. I do! Wilder ended up doing a movie with Gilda Radner instead because Pryor lit himself on fire or something lol. Can't remember the name, shit! And Pryor was doing "The Toy" too. I remember watching an interview with Jackie Gleason and he was asked about the whole thing and he got a little miffed and poo poo'd the question. Ah shits More..

    • @Rikki_Tikki_Tavi Didn't know that about Pryor's self immolation incident. Cost him a movie eh?

It was Blazing Saddles actually. Pryor was going to play Black Bart, but he wouldn't stop bringing cocaine and booze to the set, so he ended up just writing for it.

Well I officially fail. So I looked up the movie I was thinking about and it's called "Hanky Panky". Pryor was supposed to be in it with Wilder but wasn't because he was heavily into drugs and lit himself on fire and he was also committed to making "The Toy" too. They rewrote the script with Radner instead, it was re-named Hanky Panky during shooting.

I knew Pryor was a writer for Blazing Saddles but I didn't know he was going to be in it originally. Such a fam More..

    • @Rikki_Tikki_Tavi Nah, I'm a movie nerd... I heard it on the DVD commentary I'm sure.

I don't know that Saddles would have been better with Pryor either... I don't know. It would have been different. But, Cleavon Little was so good. The perfect "dazzling urbanite".

I can picture Pryor though, in the scene where Black Bart is riding toward town and the old prospector with the telescope is on the roof screaming "the sheriff is a *****!" and everybody thought he said "nea More..

  • The duo's debut was supposed to have come in 1974, in Mel Brooks's Western spoof Blazing Saddles. Brooks hired Pryor to work on the script and planned on casting him in the lead. Pryor had previously penned episodes of Sanford and Son and had been shopping a script for his own politically incorrect Western comedy, The Black Stranger. But hopes of casting the bright young comedian were dashed when he started bringing Courvoisier and cocaine to script sessions. Cleavon Little got the part, though More..
