  • I use to listen to Paul Harvey on the radio. I was such a nice, genuine, humble man. I was actually a bit sad when he passed away.

    In regards to cops, I know many of them. I am not a cop, but I work around them from time to time in my job. My father was a cop and my grandfather wa a cop, and my oldest brother is a cop.

    The truth is, everyone expects cops to do their jobs no matter what, but people just don't want to see it or know about it.

  • I hold no grudge or disrespect for officers individually, but there are two things I do not like. There is a culture of us verses them in most enforcement organizations, and although this is a natural process, I think the 'them' tends to encompass anyone not part of the force, treating the law abiding the same as criminals. The other thing is the growing militarization of the forces, especially after 9/11, which compounds the 'them' attitude, seen mostly by the hyper-aggressive home entries.

      You have to understand that the majority of people the cops have to deal with are CRIMINALS.

      My experience has been that cops become quite distrusting of their fellow men and women. However, most cops are able to differentiate between the crooks and normal, mostly law abiding people.

      There are a few exceptions I guess, but I think you are throwing ALL cops in the same bucket.

    • @ArrestU I believemuch like paramedics appear to be callous when they laugh at "stupid" injuries (because of what is dealt with on a daily basis....Cops will do the same. This offends people.

  • Great post. It's easy to forget how important these officers are to use as a society and the hardships they face on a day to day basis just to do their jobs. Respect :)

    • @Canadian from the US i see your logic, but the reason that i don't blow through red lights is that there are police out there. the reason i pull out my wallet at the grocery store instead of a gun is because the police are out there. the reason i don't kill my daughters boyfriends that i disapprove of is that there are police out there. the reason i go to work to make money instead of robbing a bank is because there are police out there.

  • I FEEL LIKE SOMETIMES IM THE ONLY PERSON STANDING UP FOR OUR LAW ENFORCMENT PERSONNEL. im ashamed of the community on here that reacts towards police officers, but then again we have creationists, truthers and conspiracy theorists and above all, liberals as well....

    • @Noalias You have not noticed the change in policeman attitude since 911? Even in my small town, they act like they have forgotten that we are all just people doing jobs. "Where are you coming from?" I resent that question in this free country. I don't blame the individuals, it's a bad attitude from top down.

  • Keep in mind. Prejudice is neither wrong nor right. Defined it is to pre-judge or in other words, make a fast judgment. It's like being ridged. The whole nature of the job requires police to constantly be making split second judgment calls. Some directly relating to his/her own safety, others indirectly. Not to mention the safety of every one else.
    If you see the world as cops vs every one else it's your own warped perspective. It's not reality.

  • I'm old enough to remember Mr. Harvey on the radio. I used to listen to his spots when-ever I could. He was unique in his delivery of all kinds of information. I am not a fan of very many media types but I was definitely a fan of Paul Harvey!

  • Between 2001 and 2008 they put on many more cops in every city and state. They used 911 to justify it and the economy was good so nobody complained. Now they have over 100 cops in my small town and it strains their budget so they line up at every other overpass on the freeway trying to give speeding tickets. I have a 30 mile commute and usually see 4 to 6 cops between home and work. Kindof a joke if you ask me.
    ps I grew up on Paul Harvey and enjoyed hearing his voice again after years. Good day More..
