A UN security council report has assessed Lebanon's border security as insufficient for significantly preventing arms smuggling from Syria.
The team of experts said in a 46-page report they had not heard of any weapons seizures during their border inspections despite widespread reports of illegal shipments, the report said on Tuesday.
The security council had authorised the mission in April because of "mounting information" of arms transfers, read the report on Wednesday
The weapons were reportedly destined for Hezbollah, Lebanonís pro-Syrian opposition movement.
UN officials have cited both Israel and the Lebanese army for reports of smuggling.
Their mission was to probe Lebanon's monitoring system along its 320km border with Syria and not to uncover cases of arms smuggling.
