George Zimmerman, a neighbourhood watch volunteer in Florida, has
been charged with killing an unarmed black teenager in a
racially-charged case that has gripped America.

The 28-year-old is now in custody after turning himself in.

17-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot dead as he visited his father on
a residential estate in the central Florida town of Sanford.

His family, their lawyers and civil rights leaders have led a
campaign calling for Zimmerman’s arrest. They claim the watchman
believed Martin was suspicious because of his colour, and killed him in
cold blood.

“We wanted nothing more, nothing less. We just wanted an arrest. And
we got it. And, I say thank you. Thank you Lord, thank you Jesus,” said
the teenager’s mother, Sybrina Fulton.

Zimmerman, a white Hispanic, has been charged with second-degree
murder, the most serious crime possible without asserting premeditation.

The watchman allegedly challenged Martin, believing his presence to
be suspicious. In the ensuing confrontation the teenager was shot dead.

Police said they initially found no proof to contradict Zimmerman’s claim that he was attacked and acted out of self-defence.

They now say the move to charge him is not the result of public
pressure, despite a wave of civil rights demonstrations across the
country demanding that the authorities take action.

Explaining the decision, Special Prosecutor Angela Corey said:

“This case is like a lot of the difficult cases we have handled for
years in our circuit, and we made that decision in the same manner. Let
me emphasis that we do not prosecute by public pressure or by petition.
We prosecute based on the facts of any given case as well as the laws of
the state of Florida.”Via EuroNews.

  • The move to charge him is not the result of public pressure, it is more likely the result of a call from the white house requesting aid in removing our "white black" leaders foot from his mouth.

    • @kajidono I personally think the "special prosecutor" is simply trying to make a name for herself. Which is ahy she bypassed the grand jury. Hoping to find him guilty so she can take as much credit as possible, then run for office, or get a job with Ooobama if he's re-elected.

You might have a point about her seeking personal glory from this. I doubt she is a democrat though

She's not, she's a Republican who "has prosecuted 65 homicide cases and has a reputation as a tough conservative in the courtroom. She’s also someone used to public pressure, prosecuting people when she feels charges are warranted and not just based on if she can win the case." • i think it is pretty straightforward myself.

zimmerman chose a course of action that led to someone dying. when you are packing heat, life and death is in your hands. if you go to a bar with a gun, and start hassling someone, and they punch you, and you kill them - you are going to prison.

if you go out in the streets at night with a gun, racially profile someone, get out of your car and accost them, a fight develops, and you kill them - you are going to prison.

    zimmerman's terrible judgement More..

    • @SharkGuy - wrong. the special prosecutor found that the cops made a mistake in not charging him. the s.p. is an unelected official who is immune to public pressure and is chosen specifically for their independence.

you do know that cops fuck up sometimes, dont you ?

I think they are just playing the due process game for the mob,he will walk once a jury gives him his walking papers,.and the Mob can't say shit then,.

    • @SharkGuy - i'm not so sure. the charge of second degree murder rather than a lesser charge such as involuntary manslaughter does not bode well for Mr Z. but that is for a jury to decide.

    • @SharkGuy If the 1992 LA Riots were sparked after cops aquitted from simply beating a guy, imagine what will happen if Zimmerman is aquitted especially since the black panthers and others have already sounded the war drums?

I'd be using this time to buy a minimum 6 months supply of food and water, making your home independent of the energy grit and buying lots of ammunition. You will likely need it.

  • If a neighborhood suddenly has a string of breakins, and all the evidence supports them being black, wouldn't it make sense to be suspicious if you saw a black gangsta dressed stranger cruising into your neighborhood? Racism is thinking your race is superior, or other races are inferior. There is nothing racist whatsoever to the facts already provided. Moving on.

  • It's nice to see mob justice is alive and well. Not enough evidence to lay a charge. Not a problem. Just get a mob of angry blacks together and government agencies will cave. The only problem is that unless the DA can railroad him into a plea, that same mob will riot when he's found not guilty.

    • @Captain Canuck not enough evidence? A dead kid would be sufficient to hold him in my opinion no matter if he was white or black ... he was told to stay at home but noo he had to be a hero! so let him take responsibility of his actions if he was innocent, it wouldn't be hard to prove... dont get me wrong I also hate that al sharpton fuck just because he is a racist asshole but cant be labeled as that because he is black !!!

Oh don't worry if it was anyone that he knew or was in his family he would most definitely be singing a different tune. Justice has been served so now we will see how it goes in the court

    • @napster835

I do understand where you are coming from, but if he appears justified, why drag him through the courts? It's incredibly expensive and stressful and for what? To satisfy the black community and the family? I assure you that if he's found innocent by the courts that the black community won't be satisfied.

I'm with you on Sharpton. He caused unnecessary trouble for everyone of every colour. He actually makes a living from peddling race hatred. Truly a disgusting person.

I probably would be singing a different tune. I would imagine that's why we are supposed to have impartial police and prosecutors to ensure witch hunts are avoided. Obviously that didn't happen in this instance.

Justice isn't supposed to be about revenge or soothing hurt feelings.

    • @Captain Canuck

Did you watch the parents press conference yesterday? I'm assuming you didn't because both parents stated numerous times that it is not about "revenge" it's always about getting the police to do their damn jobs and investigate what happened. The chief of police told that family that he was not going to investigate the circumstances of their son dying, what about that is right to you? Do you think they should just let that go? Fuck I am really trying to keep civil with More..

You want some gun-HOE, Law Enforcement Officer Wanna-be, going through your neighborghood, with pistol in hand akting all brave and 'LOOKING' for a confrontation with any Random guy walking the neighboorhood? • Allright, now Zimmerman is where he needs to be. If the jury decides he is innocent, so be it. Lives of people should _never_ be put in the hands of triggerhappy lowlifes. The guys that created these laws are the same that are against euthanasia, witch is being regarded as murder.

I see no difference, except that someone in Holland can ask for euthansia, and the request is judged by professional doctors. it's not uncommon that the request is denied. Perhaps we should send them to Floria, where More..
