The Severn Railway Tunnel Construction, 1959

a high quality film from the amazing British Transport Film library telling the story of the Construction of the Severn Railway Tunnel (Thomas Walker's 'sub-aqueous tunnel') which at the time was the longest in the world and a great civil engineering feat for that period testing the available equipment to the limit.

Delightful images of England and Wales of old. The background pictures tell a story all of their own.

please note; this is a rather long film and was made as an Educational Documentary in 1959, and, of course it is rail related. If you are not too keen on what you see within the first few moments you are strongly advised to leave it for it's probably not for you, sorry.... but, for those who do settle back and have a look at this classic film of the genre - one of the best.

with thanks to the British Transport Film library for making these films available - they are to be applauded.
