Holiday, Florida-- Deputies in Pasco County are investigating the sexual assault and murder of a 23-year-old mother found dead in her home Friday afternoon.
"It was a brutal murder, brutal," said Pasco Sheriff Bob White, who would not release information on how the victim died.
Within hours of the crime, deputies arrested the man they believe is responsible. James Cacacie, 26, was found across the street from the murder scene, after investigators received information from the U.S. Marshal's Office.
"We began to canvas the area and, basically, we found him across the street," said Sheriff White.
Deputies believe Cacacie was once in a relationship with the victim, who police have identified as 23-year-old Sarah Ann Capps, and may have even fathered her child. That child was previously removed from the home and remains in state custody.
Investigators say Cacacie recently returned to Florida from New York and may have been homeless.
He is now charged with first degree murder and sexual assault. Deputies say he was interviewed and transported to the Land O' Lakes Jail.
