@johnestel not like the movies buddy, the augers in the hydrants are 4-8 feet deep due to frost levels breaking the top part off is like snapping the bolt head off while trying to un thread it from an old rust part, remains sealed.

@johnestel actually upon further investigation technically your right while being wrong lol the name of this and what we have in canada due to cold weather and frost is a "dry barrel hydrant" and im guessing inthe lower states they use "wet barrel hydrants" which the water shut off valve is above ground(seems like a stupid idea actually)...and now that i remember the video of that guy goign through the streets in california with a tank i think i remember watching the water sh More..
