  • One dragster's 500-inch Hemi makes more horsepower then the first 8 rows at Daytona.

    * Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 1 1/2 gallons of nitro per second, the same rate of fuel consumption as a fully loaded 747 but with 4 times the energy volume.

    * The supercharger takes more power to drive than a stock hemi makes.

    * Even with nearly 3000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into nearly-solid form before ignition. Cylinders More..

    • @442olds wow, you certainly know your stuff, Drag Racing is the most exciting thing I've ever watched. I was lucky enough to see Big Daddy Don Garlits with his Top Fueller at Santa Pod along with Slammin Sammy Miller with his hydrogen peroxide powered jet car doing the quarter in less than 4 seconds - breathtaking stuff - as you so adequately described!

  • Video simply can't do the sound of these cars justice. I've gone to many different motorsports races from IRL to Nascar to all sorts of SCCA events. These cars are so much louder it is insane. I had front row seats by the starting line a few years ago and the shockwaves from the engine actually blur your vision. Hearing protection doesn't do much because the sound is simply passing through your skull...
