Vimmy Ridge Battle
Canada's Shock Troops took what was said to never be taken. I have two past family members who lost their lives on Vimmy Ridge. One should always remember the sacrifices our ancesters made to let us live how we do now. And sorry for the voice, it's not me.

Regardless of the hand-full of nay-sayers here on LL this was a very interesting report of a sacrifice of men of bravery that I had never heard of. Thank you for this fine presentation!

The Canadians fought like lions in WW1, arguably the best troops on the Western Front alongside the Aussies...
The British used them both as shock troops against German defensive positions
Gay voice BTW...

I think the worst/sadest part of this war was that the sacrifices didnt mean anything. It was just a waste of money and people, and didnt chance the world to a better place, but instead built more hate and separation of the states of europe that in the end lead to a new world war.

I read about this battle not long ago. First time I'd heard of a creeping barrage, which seemed to have been a decisive factor in taking the ridge.
Also the wave attacks, where front line troops would capture a trench and hold it while the next wave would leap frog them and continue onto the next trench, was able to keep the pressure on Gerry instead of letting them regroup and counter attack.

Only the germans had "Shock Troops", while the french and the canadians only had shocked troops.

@Krupp That's funny. I've read reports and letters from German servicemen, that they were scared shitless of the Canadians. Oh and by the way, maybe look up trench raids, first conducted by Canadians. I'd be willing to bet you'd shit your pants.
