A political activist who had been jailed three times for attempting to obtain compensation for villagers whose land had been forcibly seized by local officials, lays crushed under a heavy lorry.

He reportedly received a telephone call requesting a meeting at 9.25am, and his body was found an hour or so later.
The lorry driver was nowhere to be found.

Police attempted to remove the body but were thwarted by villagers.
