11-11-11 Return of the Mayan Winged Serpent King Gateway Effigy begins today at Serpent Mounds

Serpent Mound in Adams County will be a bit more mysterious — and a lot more crowded — this
afternoon.
More than 200 people are expected to gather at the ancient site as part of a cross-country “
journey of the 13 crystal skulls.”
The spiritual sojourn began on Wednesday in New York and will culminate in the 11.11.11 Crystal
Skulls World Mysteries Gateway Conference at a Los Angeles hotel.
The event, which uses skulls to create energy, has grown larger than expected, said organizer
Patricia Cardona, who runs the Cosmic Mysteries School in Cold Spring, Ky., south of
Cincinnati.
“It’s just too full,” said Cardona, who stopped responding to email queries this week in the
hope of discouraging people from attending.
"I’m worried about how many people will be there. A lot more are coming than that area can
hold."
Cardona described the journey as a positive response to the world’s problems.

“We know there have been disasters, but we’re not going to be able to help if we all have
negative thoughts,” she said. “The idea of making this journey is to put the tide of people’s
thoughts and emotions and mental images toward helping the Earth and helping humanity.”
Participants believe that skulls gather and release energy.

Crystal skulls, made famous by the Indiana Jones movies, have long been associated with Maya or
Aztec culture and are thought to have paranormal powers.
The 13 skulls in this case come from various sources — some modern, some ancient. They needn’t
be 13 specific skulls.
"The idea is to gather as many skulls together in one location as possible," said Kendall Morgan
of Oracle Stone Productions in California, which is helping to organize the event. "The prophecy is
that they store information together, like a computer, and release this when they are
together."
At the center of the ceremony is Hunbatz Men, described as a Maya elder and priest.

He will have a private teaching at 2 p.m. today for 200 registered people, then conduct the
larger ceremony at the mound.
At the journey’s end, he and 12 other Maya priests will discuss the 2012 Mayan Prophecy — which
many think marks the end of the world, according to a news release.
Norma Gentile, a spiritual writer and musician from Ypsilanti, Mich., knows of the event but
doesn’t plan to go.
She isn’t sure what to make of the skull claims.

“I‘ve heard different stories, different things,” she said. “I don’t know where the truth
lies.
“If someone is drawn to them to help make them a better person, great. But is it the skulls, or
is it the gathering itself?”
