New Delhi: Indian vets carried out a rare blood transfusion on a seven-month-old wild tiger in a desperate effort to save it after it was attacked by angry villagers.
Life had been tough for the tiger cub nicknamed Juhi which along with its sister - was rescued by wildlife officials in Chandrapur forest.
“They were separated from mother and they were in a very weak condition. Forest Dept. rescued them and brought them to zoo,” says Deputy Dean, Vetenary College, Nagpur, Dr. Shishir Upadhyay.
Despite the best efforts the tiger cub didn't survive. In fact the 7-month-old tiger cub was in a serious condition. It was shifted to Nagpur Zoo and in a first of its kind operation in India the tiger cub underwent a rare blood transfusion
“This cub which just died was even given blood transfusion. But she died,” adds Dr. Shishir Upadhyay.
The story of these cubs is perhaps indicative of the state of tigers in India- the forests from where they were rescued have been in the news for human -tiger conflict.
