Images of 440-lb Metal Object That Fell Sky in Russia
Article here: http://wp.me/pZqnc-1wN
A 200 kilogram object crashed down near a small village in Siberia.
Preliminary checks by unspecified “space experts” conclude that this is
not part of a rocket or defense missile.
The object is around six feet in length. Head of Department for Civil Defence and Emergency Situations of the Kuibyshevski, Valery Vasiliev, said part of the fragment was made of ultra strong titanium.
Adding a large dose of intrigue to this strange happening is the fact that the object is “now under guard by the force on orders from unspecified authorities.”

i vote for this being a sheared off part of an old propellant tank from some third stage, for having a sort of cap on one side.
Those stages often remain in orbit with small ammounts of propellants left, and sometimes dive into the atmosphere where the remainig fuel pops the tank into its fragments.
difficult to figure which flight that was, it could be decades old

It looks like part of a missile stage to me. The authorities are just saying this shit to avoid paying damages.

Definitely a pressure bulkhead. And if that's made out of titanium, that's one expensive bulkhead!

It does not look extremely sophisticated.Most likely man made,but also higly possible that it is a part of something that was supposed to be classified.In the right hands it would provide useful information like new alloy composition etc.

Damn, I was wondering were that went. Sheesh a little to much propane and the grill launched in to orbit.

Shitty quality reporter work, but the grid design of the heat shield is very unusual looking. I'm guessing it's a heat shield since there is evidence of heat and burning.

@Steve15425
I don't think it's a heat shield. The grid design is there to provide structual rigidigy, without taxing on the weight. It is probably just a part of a propellant tank assembly, like this one; http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/A314.jpg

Thanks. It's part of a Shtil ballistic missile. After some more research i found this propellant tank construction. If you click at the PBV engine picture, you see the underside of the tank. Looks suprisingly familiar! http://www.b14643.de/Spacerockets_1/East_Europe_3/Shtil/Description/Frame.htm
