Hispanic Man Attacked by Racists on Staten Island

Police are investigating yet another suspected bias attack on Staten Island.

Investigators say it happened around 7 p.m. Wednesday along Richmond Terrace in Port Richmond.

City Councilmember Debi Rose says the 30-year-old Mexican man was attacked and beaten by a group of at least six black men.

The victim suffered damage to an eye socket.

He was treated at a nearby hospital and later released.

"There seems to be an unsettling pattern of hate crimes or hooliganism or I don't know what to call it anymore. But the point is it has to stop," Rose said.

"I'm shocked. I really thought we were making progress here, we've had tremendous police presence in the community, really all hands response from elected officials and government officials to local community people. So I'm kinda of stymieing this to where we go now," said Terry Troia of Project Hospitality.

No arrests have been made.

Police say the hate crimes unit has been notified of the case but,because the suspects are black, they have not classified the incident as a hate crime.
