1 Year After Fukushima, 3x Background Radiation in Saint Louis Rainfall

(c)2012 http://www.POTRBLOG.com

Update: A check of the jet stream shows
that this rainfall generated from over Mexico and that the Fukushima
fallout laden NORTHERN jetstream is far to the north of Saint Louis.

To see the actual location of the jetstream follow this link
http://pissinontheroses.blogspot.com/2012/03/1-year-after-fukushima-3x-background.html
---------------------------------------------------------------
3/11/12:
The leading edge of today's rainfall returned the lowest fallout
radiation reading we have had in Saint Louis in a very long time; the
situation may change as typically the trailing edges of the storms have
the highest radioactive content.

  • I've got a S.E International unit just like this one. Anyhoo, 3x background is not dangerous considering someplaces normally have upwards of 40-50 CPM and his was what 9-10, that's very low.

    • @flashj2 the highest we have measured is 276 times greater than background radiation; that was on 10/17/11. see

    • @potrblog If you don't mind give me the date and map location this was done. Just want to run it through http://radiationnetwork.com/ message board.

    • @flashj2 today in Saint Louis, Mo.
The 276x reading was on 10/17/11 in Saint Louis, Mo

Can't be solar flare activity. Gotta be tsnumai fallout you figure ?

    • @potrblog Have you compared the weather patterns, jet stream etc starting from a few days ago? Seems this can't be from Japan. I used weather underground to animate.

  • If he had wiped the whole of his car and concentrated all of that into that tissue. He could have made the reading much higher!

    • @Agincort Actually the process is self limiting; once the paper towel is soaked with rain water the levels top out.

Airing your ignorance (proudly ) is such an american trait.

    • @Agincort but your flag looks British?
However if you're interested in why the process is self limiting, this video will start to give you a clue.

Hopefully you can followup with your own research.

    • @Agincort One would have to be omniscient for that statement not to hold; but if you have useful quantitative input, please share. How about you support your position via a video demonstration?

  • I get a higher mR/hr dosage when I fart.

  • No joke, I have have also been getting elevated readings in Boston.

  • High enough to set off the default alarm on mine (.3 uSv)

Here in Florida it's been staying below .1 though

  • Curious why a paper towel wiped from a car on the road? Doesn't seem like a clean sample to me. What about all the catalytic converters grinding up crap and spittting it out behind them and onto your hood and window. Isn't that and everything else on the road contaminating the sample? Why not test a bowl of rain water collected?

    • @zorro869 rainfall is likely the primary high risk source of Fukushima fallout in the USA; people are most exposed to it while driving, hence the test method gives some idea of the level of threat people face. BTW catalytic converters are not radioactive, nor is normal road grime.

  • Lol, this crap cracks me up, .02mr/hr is nothing and if you knew anything about contamination you would know that the water is shielding it so therefore it's actually a little high but still nothing. The majority of what you are picking up is RADON. Next video you should make is go put your instrument next to your smoke detector or better yet walk through the salt isle in grocery store. I got deployed to Fukushima and saw everything first hand. Close to the reactor is was very bad but about 100 More..
