this is one reason i have four dogs.
I don't want my dogs outnumbers when coyotes, or other dogs come sniffing around.
I want my dogs to have at least some backup, while I fetch the Ruger 10/22.

coyotes are curious, but they're usually curious about what might be edible including dogs. I had one follow me while I was hunting, stayed at a safe distance for about ten minutes but kept walking when I walked and stopping when I stopped.
