travelling to St Kilda 1928
There have been people on St Kilda since prehistoric times, they lived independently until in the early 19th century when contact from the outside world decimated the population (influenza)
most of the islanders migrated to Melbourn Australia in the last 18th century, on August 1930, the remaining 36 inhabitants were removed to Morvern on the Scottish mainland at their own request.

Funnily enough there is a Melbourne suburb and football team called St Kilda (not related to the islands name but a ship of the same name).

If I HAD to live on an island, I think I would pick one of the Hawaiian islands.
That shit looks cold and damp and not much fun.

@bandit1200 Super mice of St Kilda
There is something very strange going on the remote island of St Kilda, where field mice arrived on the island about 1000 years ago, hidden on Viking raiders' boats.
St Kilda was abandoned by humans in 1930 and, due to the lack of food, the normal house mice population died out soon after. Since then, the field mice have grown to twice the size of their cousins on the British mainland.
Researchers from the University of Edinburgh are investigating to find ou More..

The first vid is one of the best oldies I've seen on the Net. The music, the subtle background noises, and the story combine into a masterpiece. I'm shocked only 606 views on YouTube.
Thanks for posting. Voted.
