featuring a panoramic view of Mangere Bridge township and the this video chronicles my walk up Mangere Mountain in Auckland New Zealand. Mangere Mountain (also Mangere Domain, for the park) is one of the largest volcanic cones in the Auckland Volcanic Field, with a peak 106 metres above sea level, and was the site of a major Maori pā. Many of the pā's earthworks are still very evident. It offers spectacular panoramic views.
The mountain features two large craters. The volcano has a wide crater with a lava dome near its centre, a feature shared by no other volcano in Auckland. The volcano last erupted approximately 18,000 years ago.[1]
The mountain is one of the largest and best preserved of Auckland's
volcanic cones. Much of the archaeological environment on the mountain
remains, such as kumara pits, garden terraces, walled garden mounds and
stone boundary walls.[2]
Near the mountain to the southwest is Mangere Lagoon.

Auckland geography is fascinating.
It has a huge number of recent volcanic cones. The most recent being Rangitoto Island.
What's very interesting is that Auckland is way overdue for a new eruption and new cone.
With luck it'll be out past Rangitoto, but it could hit at any place. The volcanic field is still 'hot'
Mangere is in the far south of the field while Rangitoto is in the far North - yet they are separated by only 18,000 odd years.

Yep, Rangitoto, Maori for the Flaming Sky because Tamaki tribes witnessed its most recent eruption about 500 years ago.
My favorite North Island volcano is Ruapehu. It does ruin ski holidays every now and then but it's just a beautiful majestic beast.

indeed we have alot of volcano cones but hopefully none will erupt in the next 5000 years or so

@Vulpine
It's not the ones that have erupted that are a problem. They are mostly quite dead.
It's the new ones that could pop up anywhere.
You literally could get up one morning and your back yard could be cracking and smoking prior to it turning your suburb into a new Mt Eden.
Auckland volcanoes pop up every 500 to 10000 years. The last one - Rangitoto was 600 years ago.
