Warning: Pro-Amnesty Groups Plan To ‘Escalate’ Their Demonstrations To ‘Another Level’…(Illinois) Protesters Blocked Van From Transporting Illegals To Airport…24 Were Arrested

Here is ICIRR’s site.
IRCC stands for Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights and they have given Congress a deadline of May 1 (April 30 too because site has both does as deadline), to ‘make changes at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) including an end to raids, deportations and E-Verify and the firing of ICE director John Morton.’

Two dozen demonstrators were arrested outside a federal detention center in Broadview this morning, minutes after they halted a van of deportees headed to O’Hare International Airport for a flight out of the country.

Officers took the demonstrators into custody, one by one, as the crowd of supporters cheered and chanted “no deportations today.”

As they were escorted to squad cars from Broadview, Maywood and Westchester, each demonstrator urged Congress and the Obama administration to deal with immigration reforms.

“There is now a racial reign of terror spreading across the country and it has to be stopped,” said Joshua Hoyt, director of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights and one of the people arrested.

Earlier, about two dozen demonstrators sat in the street outside the detention center and chanted “Illinois is not Arizona” as they planted themselves in front of a van carrying undocumented immigrants headed out of the country.

After about 15 minutes, the van backed up and headed back into the detention center.

The standoff this morning is part of the escalating anger among immigrant communities over a law passed in Arizona that, among other things, allows local police to ask for proof of legal residence.

The protesters in the street — part of a crowd of more than 100 people who camped overnight outside the center — said they were ready to be arrested over their frustration at deportations throughout the country.

“We have to escalate to another level (of demonstrations) because they have forced us,” said Fabian Morales, a principal organizer of a planned immigration march on Saturday that is expected to draw several thousand demonstrators.

Here’s how the ICIRR site reports this story:

This morning 22 community leaders were arrested by Broadview police as they took part in nation-wide escalating actions to demand President Barack Obama to put an end to raids and deportations.

This civil disobedience took place after an all-night vigil where three hundred Chicagoans expressed their discontent with the lack of action by the Obama administration, and in solidarity with immigrants in Arizona in response to the passage of SB 1070.

It was an incredible and sobering experience to be sitting outside Broadview Detention Facility, a place that has caused so much pain to our communities. We watched as four vans and one bus entered the facility carrying an estimated 120 people. We saw their faces as they went by inside their cages, shackled to the floor. We spoke with relatives outside hoping to see a family member before they were deported.

We sang, danced, and chanted to encourage those inside the vans, inside the facility, their family members, and ourselves.

The vigil signals the lengths to which concerned community members will go to to stop the destruction and separation of families in Arizona, Illinois, and throughout the United States if the April 30th deadline for legislative action by the senate on immigration reform is not met.
