@Ex ExPat That was my initial thought, but apparently that retarded legalese worked and the camera guy stopped recording.

"The Federal Appeals Court has ruled that video recording the police in a public place is a constitutional right for all U.S. citizens. This is a great win for the freedom movement. Public officials need to be held accountable for their actions. See ruling below." (linked to article and ruling)

@blacklama Some states have an evesdropping law that disallows people to record the voice of a police officer, or something like that.
They pretty much took a diarrhea on the constitution with that law.

@KnifeJesus It was the smart thing to do, in my opinion. Choose your battles and know when to quit while you're ahead -- the loot was already won by the recorder when the officer confronted him on camera with the demand and threat for arrest.

Police officer is just severely stumbling over his own words. What he means to say is that the audio portion of the recording is what will be illegal, not specifically the video portion.

@rivrev65 But he WILL bust you if he wants and though you might get the charges dismissed, you WILL spend hours in jail, you WILL pay bail that you'll get back (but not his $40 fee), you WILL go to court at least twice, probably 3 times. So you might get off in the long run, but it will be a long drawn out pain in the ass and you won't be suing anybody either

-Dummy is also a post blocking coward, go figure. But you can stand on the written along with the SCOTUS as they have repeatedly ruled on this in that states can create such laws but they are trumped by the 1st. The LEO was wrong :-)
