  • The failed imposition of Capitalistic principles on a Socialist institution. The US is moving back to the days of the Pinkertons, where justice only goes to the highest bidder.

That's why police and fire departments were founded on a socialist basis - justice should be for everyone: It keeps the society safer and helps overall economic growth.

Except for the fact that the majority of the protection and security provided in this country is done not by the police, but by private security companies.

Not to mention that there is nothing at all socialist about the distribution of fire departments. All people are not equally protected when it comes to public safety, including fire departments.

    • @Momus - Police and Fire departments are socialist institutions. They are not designed to be run for - or by - profit motive. As to their effectiveness, that rest solely on how much support these Socialist organizations get for their local tax payers.

    • @viennachoirboy

Police and Fire are NOT socialist institutions. I don't think you really understand what socialism means.

And if you think they reflect successful socialism, then I really know you don't understand it. The point is that for every cop on the public payroll, there are up to 3-7 people employed in the private sector for protection and security...essentially proving that we rely more on privatized protection and security than anything you would call "socialist."
