Never had the privilege of going aboard this particular ship when I served in the Marines but I did do some ops with the "Gator Navy" as a USMC Huey Crewchief. Went aboard the Nimitz, the Kitty Hawk and the Tarawa.
My cousin was a sailor who worked on the catapult launches on this ship.

@ValleyBlacksmith I've flown Kites at Kitty Hawk, NC. Never been on the carrier though. I've seen, read all the material on the Wright brothers while playing around airports as a child. If only marijuana were legal.. I'd probably be piloting *blank* right now :)

@ValleyBlacksmith I served at the Naval Amphib Base in Virginia Beach: all gator Freighters. It was awesome. Later as a civilian I helped my brother produce a rock concert aboard the USS Guam as it came back from the med on its last crew: I was the last civilian to steer the ship. Did a bunch of doughnuts in the San Diego Bay LOL! It was a blast and the boys loved the show. Great times. Semper Fi brother.

I took a vacation to Florida with my family in '78 driving down from NY and we got a beach house for a few days on Nags Head NC, right near Kitty Hawk. raucous surf with a wicked undertow and sandcrabs everywhere. @Davaeron I'm saying that aircraft pilots are just a wee bit more perfectionist than a grocery store clerk. Obviously every employed person is important as all hell. I can fly airplanes and helicopters, my father had a fleet of airplanes and trained airforce pilots before he and our lawyers died in plane crashes, but I prepare deserts and salads at an Italian restaurant... They get pissed because I'm a perfectionist and not a "prepare it fast and fuck the consequences" kind of guy. FML More..
