he EU flag flown at the Business Ministry last year
BRUSSELS bureaucrats have surrendered in their bid to force Britain to fly the European flag in Whitehall, it emerged last night.
Proposals from the European Commission would have compelled any Government department distributing EU development funds to fly the blue-and-gold banner from a flagpole outside its headquarters.
But after months of wrangling, the proposals have been watered down.
Whitehall departments will now remain within the rules so long as the EU’s emblem is displayed somewhere on the premises.
One Whitehall insider joked: “The logo will go in the basement.”
Communities and Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles led the challenge to the rules.
He said yesterday: “This is a victory for common sense.
“Forcing institutions to fly the flag all round will not help to balance the EU budget.
“I am glad that the commission has taken a more pragmatic view on this whole issue.”

EU 'should expand beyond Europe'

This is just the tip of a massive iceberg. If it takes months of wrangling just to agree where a flag is displayed, what hope is there of them actually sorting out Europe's problems?

Good. This flag has relevance in the UK. You can't force an identity on people that don't want it. This is one flag i would be happy to see burning.

No way they can "force" us to fly a flag that represents so much of the problems in europe and the uk. What an utter sham
Surely it would have been pretty simple to just say "No, we're not going to do that" and that was the end of the discussion. How was there any battle over it? No court in the UK would rule in Brussels favour on it..

Get some EU flags printed on toilet paper and stock up the area with it.
They just didn't want to loose a battle of wills with a bullshit EU law on their side. It's a delicious irony that GB may declare independence from the EU. As a patriot, my head is near explosion over it. It would be too much if the US was able to help in some manner with a battle or threat. Insult war, trade war, amphibious landing threat... anything would do. It's the chance of a lifetime. My head would explode f More..

We shud kick the brits from the EU,i mean totally.
They would have to use passports to travel threw europe, and we shud reopens all the customs offices at our "boundaries" with them.
And then They would have to pay MASSIVE taxes on every products they export to the EU.
That would teach them

@POLUX You'd be stuck with the Roma and other scum from Eastern Europe. It wouldn't be any good allowing them to gather at Calais in the hope of getting to the UK.

@POLUX We don't need kicking out of it,we want to run away from it.You are more than welcome to keep this suicide club.We would then have control of our borders and save billions of pounds.Protest our government telling them you want us out,you would be doing us a huge favour.Thank you.
