Senate Democrats Insist Bill Will Be Popular

In a united propaganda front reminiscent of Orwell, Senate Democrats insisted that the public will fall in love with health care reform once they see what's in the bill.

Interesting, because wasn't America promised that the health care reform process would be transparent?

Meeting reporters after passage of the Democratic national health care bill, Sen. Charles Schumer seemed sensitive to the commentary pointing out that the Democratic legislation is overwhelmingly unpopular with the American people. "I don't believe that," Schumer said. "I believe that the negativity that Leader McConnell and others have continually displayed on the floor has peaked, and now, when people learn what's actually in the bill and all the good it does, it will become more and more popular."

But in a sure sign that Democratic leaders did not want to encounter any negativity on the day the bill passed, Majority Leader Harry Reid announced before the news conference began that, "We're not going to take any questions."
Reid praised the bill as bringing Americans "one step closer to making Ted Kennedy's dream a reality." Sen. Chris Dodd said that, "On this Christmas Eve, I can't think of a better gift the U.S. Senate could give to the American people." And Sen. Richard Durbin said the legislation "lit a light of hope for 50 million Americans who went to bed last night without the benefit of health insurance." (It's not clear where Durbin got that figure; Schumer cited 31 million.)

But no one took any questions.

Reid: Public will greet health care bill with 'joy and happiness'

In the final minutes of the Senate health care debate, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said lawmakers would hear "an earful" about the national health care bill from constituents who are solidly opposed to the legislation. In response, Majority Leader Harry Reid cited the case of a young disabled boy in Nevada who Reid said will now have health coverage and said that Democrats will indeed hear an earful -- "an earful of joy and happiness."

"Yes, we'll hear an earful," Reid added, "but it will be an earful of wonderment and happiness."

The RealClearPolitics average of recent polls on the health care bill shows the public opposed by a margin of 51 percent to 38 percent. The Pollster.com average of polls shows the public opposed by a margin of 52 percent to 40 percent. Both averages are made up of a wide variety of polls by different pollsters. In the Pollster.com compilation, the public has opposed Democratic health care legislation since July.

    • That is why it took so long to get this far, none of the Dems wanted to go alone with the repubs, because when it blows up in their faces they have nobody to blame but themselves......oh and George Bush because I am sure they will find some way of saying its his fault.

  • Reid wouldn't take questions because questions demand answers and he and the rest of the elitist jerks in his party do not consider anything they do to be any of our business.
And this; "Sen. Chris Dodd said that, "On this Christmas Eve, I can't think of a better gift the U.S. Senate could give to the American people."
That's exactly what they think of themselves and their jobs; to give gifts to the American people.
They believe it's their money and we are all their dependents More..
