Wal-Mart's DC developer gets 2nd protest at his HOUSE

On the 20th of January, an estimated three dozen people showed up outside the home of Dick Knapp's house to protest plans to open a Wal-Mart on Ga Ave-for the second time.

Dick Knapp is senior Vice President of Foulger-Pratt, owner of the old Chevy dealer site on Ga Ave-the one this developer is trying to lease to Wal-Mart.

This was the second protest outside Dick Knapp's house by Walmart-Free DC, which is demanding that no Wal-Mart outlets ever open anywhere in DC. Dick Knapp is project manager for the proposed Ward 4 Wal-Mart, one of four that Wal-Mart wants to open in DC.

Protesters emphasized that Wal-Mart has been funding politicians who opposed DC Statehood, as well as their habit of running almost all local retail outlets into bankruptcy.

There are those who say Wal-Mart creates jobs, but protesters cite studies showing that Wal-Mart merely hires a portion (not even all) of the people who lose their jobs as other retail outlets close. One participant in the protest cited a store that is already making plans to move, fearing that they will never survive with a Wal-Mart across the street.

Mr Knapp, once these protests start, they don't stop until you resolve the issue-DON'T SIGN THE LEASE!
