The alleged procurer in a prostitution scandal surrounding New York Governor Eliot Spitzer has been denied bail for his Israeli origins.

The 62-year-old Mark Michael Brener has been a US citizen for two decades and was denied bail following his arrest over claims that he ran the Emperors VIP Club, described by the police as a high-priced prostitution ring.

According to The Associated Press, Brener was denied bail because he had in his possession $600,000 in cash and an Israeli passport which may allow him to escape from the country if released.

The White House alleges that Brener had been catering for high-ranking politicians and entrepreneurs from around the world.

New York Governor Eliot Spitzer
The political career of Democrat Eliot Spitzer, who once had high hopes of becoming the first Jewish president of the United States, is now believed to be over as undeniable evidence points to his involvement with an escort service.

The scandal comes as a blow to Hillary Clinton who was confident that she could count on the New York governor as one of her all-important superdelegates.
