This morning authorities will begin the grim search for bodies saying dozens could be dead. Whole towns have been wiped off the map, leaving residents few places to hide from the ferocious fires.
One resident of Kinglake, north-east of Melbourne, said three members of the same family, believed to include a 14-year-old girl, a nine-year-old boy and an uncle, had died in the same house.
