MILWAUKIE, Ore.- A Milwaukie mother speaks from the heart, with a message for anyone going out to celebrate New Years Eve.
Tonight, V Mathews is asking people not to drink and drive. Two of her sons were killed by drunk drivers.
"I miss those boys more than anything in this whole world. I would do anything to have them back even just for one second to give them each a hug. It's never going to happen because of those drunk drivers," says Mathews with tears in her eyes.
In August of 1969 her 19 year old son Rodger went out with a friend to McDonalds and a movie. They got a flat tire and were fixing it on the side of the road when they were killed. "The drunk driver was driving on the wrong side of the road and hit them and dragged them for 35 feet. Rodger's shoes were still...where he was jacking up the tire."
Rodger died in her arms at the hospital.
Then on Mother's Day, 1983, it happened again. Her 17 year old son Blake was jogging home from a friend's house when he was hit and killed by a drunk driver.
Mathews shares her pain hoping it will encourage others not to drink and drive.
"I had to spend another Christmas and now another New Year with out two sons. I miss them always. Everyday I think of them," says Mathews.
