Afghanistan: Firefight near Kunduz
On June, 23th 2009 a german/afghan patrol was attacked with small arms and RPG five kilometers southwest of PRT Kundus.
Soldiers returned fire. Close Air support has been requested. The fighting is still going on.
[EDIT: In the meantime, german minister of defence has confirmed thress dead soldiers of german Bundeswehr.]

Kunduz, 23.06.2009, Stand: 11.20 Uhr.
Am 23. Juni um 9.29 Uhr MESZ (Ortszeit: 11.59 Uhr) wurde eine deutsche Patrouille im Rahmen einer gemeinsamen Operation deutscher und afghanischer Sicherheitskräfte circa sechs Kilometer südwestlich des Regionalen Wiederaufbauteams (PRT) Kunduz durch Handwaffen und Panzerabwehrhandwaffen beschossen.
Die Soldaten erwiderten das Feuer aus ihren Bordwaffen und mit ihren Handwaffen. Luftnahunterstützung und Reservekräfte sind angefordert. Die Operation dauert an.

Newest reports say, that their armored vehicle fell into a river while repositioning during a fierce firefight with talibs. The soldiers drowned. May their souls rest in peace.

The 3 German soldiers didnt directly die through the effects of the battle they drowned after their vehicle (TPz Fuchs) rolled over into a little river. Just wanted to get things right cause the discription above is misleading.

they crashed their fuchs headsup into a small river during a maneuver to avoid the fighting area. one of the german soldiers was wounded badly but able to pull his dead comrades out of the vehicle. he died shortly after. its not clear if they died due to the accident or by drowning.

why do we never get the reports of individual american soldiers deaths here on l&l ?
we just seem to get reports of canadian and european

here in the uk its shoved into your face by the media,
it feels very personal and close to home, when you see local people who you know on the six oclock news
