"..C/2012 S1 .... 'will be one of the greatest comets in human history' far outshining hale-bopp.."

"Right now, 2012 S1 appears to be about 615 million miles (990 million kilometers) from Earth, between the orbits of Saturn and Jupiter, astronomers say."

"It's thought that this is the first time this particular comet has ever passed through the inner solar system -- meaning it's never been blasted by the sun before.
Its brightness magnitude is expected to be -16. In comparison, the sun has a magnitude of -26, and Comet Hale-Bopp was magnitude -1.".

  • Cool. I love astronomy. One correction to the guy in the video. The comet will not be half as bright as the sun. One magnitude difference is equal to 2.512 in brightness. The Sun at -26 is ten magnitudes from the projected brightness of this comet with -16. So, 2.512^10 = 10,004. Therefore the comet will be 1/10,000 as bright as the Sun. This is more realistic since the comet only reflects the Sun's light and does not emit any of it's own. For comparison the full moon is -13, and therefore the c More..

      From the National Geographic article:

Current orbital predictions indicate the comet will look brightest to us in the weeks just after its closest approach to the sun, on November 28, 2013—if 2012 S1 survives the experience.

As the comet comes within about 1.2 million miles (2 million kilometers) of the sun, the star's intense heat and gravity could cause the ice and rubble to break apart, scotching the sky show.

"While some predictions suggest it may become as bright as More..

Will be less than 1.2 million miles from the sun's surface and survive a go around ?

That sounds like a tall tail

  • Notice as new years get closer and closer, the dipshit conspiracy theorists have stopped running their idiot mouths about 2012 doomsday?

Just like every other retarded doomsday conspiracy theory that all amounted to nothing. You won't hear Alex 'retard' Jones saying he was wrong. He's just going to look at his bank account and laugh at all of the retards who mortgaged their homes to build survival shelters.

And, soon enough they'll start pushing another retarded doomsday scare, and all the sam More..

    • @VoltRabbit Funny, yeah. You won't get any real responses though. None of them ever actually believed the doomsday bullshit. It's just escapism for them.

Killer bees, acid rain, global warming, Y2k, 2012. There's always a new bullshit doomsday conspiracy for them to pretend to believe.

    • @Airedale That's what the religious loons always do. "God told me doomsday is actually going to happen in 10 years". I think it was in the early 1900's, there was an entire village in Russia who followed a cult-leader. He told them the world was ending. They all dug their own graves, laid down in caskets and waited for the apocalypse. Something like 900 people.

  • It's a Dutch video, take it with a grain of salt. He still believes in HAARP rings on radar screens dispite me trying to explain anonymous propagation of a radar. He ramps things up way too much and has said the New Madrid fault would have erupted 2 years ago because of some tremors.
