American Medical Association Supports Supreme Court Decision on the ACA

Statement attributable to:
Jeremy A. Lazarus, MD
President, American Medical Association

The American Medical Association has long supported health insurance coverage for all, and we are pleased that this decision means millions of Americans can look forward to the coverage they need to get healthy and stay healthy.

“The AMA remains committed to working on behalf of America's physicians and patients to ensure the law continues to be implemented in ways that support and incentivize better health outcomes and improve the nation's health care system. “This decision protects important improvements, such as ending coverage denials due to pre-existing conditions and lifetime caps on insurance, and allowing the 2.5 million young adults up to age 26 who gained coverage under the law to stay on their parents' health insurance policies. The expanded health care coverage upheld by the Supreme
Court will allow patients to see their doctors earlier rather than waiting for treatment until they are sicker and care is more expensive. The decision upholds funding for important research on the
effectiveness of drugs and treatments and protects expanded coverage for prevention and wellness care, which has already benefited about 54 million Americans.

“The health reform law upheld by the Supreme Court simplifies administrative burdens, including streamlining insurance claims, so physicians and their staff can spend more time with patients and less time on paperwork. It protects those in the Medicare ‘donut hole,’ including the 5.1 million Medicare patients who saved significantly on prescription drugs in 2010 and 2011. These important changes have been made while maintaining our American system with both private and public insurers.”

  • Yeah, so what! The AMA is nothing more than an association. Most doctors do not belong or agree with them.

    • @CannibalsCookpot ...all doctors belong - they have to EARN membership and can't practice medicine without belonging to the AMA. Fool.

FOOL! You pay to be a member and it has nothing to do with practicing medicine, beyond the members profession. It is a political lobbying group.

    • @jgmurj look at the board of directors and then google their names, you'll be surprised at the connections they have to the insurance industry.

Most physicians disagree with these clowns anyways, its no real surprise

The conservative mind's capacity to label something "liberal" and dismiss it from consideration utterly is fascinating...

    • @danmoc13 Well, yes, I hate conservatives, because they're stupid and dangerous. The last time a conservative was in power, we got two COMPLETELY POINTLESS wars that destroyed the economy, coupled with tax cuts for the rich, which also destroyed the economy.

Now that a liberal is in power, we're slowly crawling out of the GIANT HOLE the previous conservative warmonger caused.

  • 83% of doctors polled said they would strongly consider early retirement or leaving the profession entirely if this becomes law. And Liberals everywhere jump in the air with glee, too stupid to realize what they just stepped in.

The Doctor Patient Medical Association has released a new survey of about 700 doctors, and the results are bleak. Scary bleak. Among other dismal figures, Doctors' Attitudes on the Future of Medicine: What’s Wrong, Who’s to Blame, and What Will Fix It found that 83% of respondents are contemplating leaving the industry if Obamacare is fully implemented, owing to its disastrous projected consequences. Indeed, they openly blame the healthcare law for their industry's woes:

    • @Nepean109 It's not BS, it's fact. Doctors are advising their children not to go in to the profession now. Doctors are retiring. etc.

Unfortunately leftists are simple emotional creatures who can't consider this issue beyond *derp* free healthcare is good, because it's free, and Conservatives hate babies and old people and puppies and rainbows *derp*

America carries 75% of global R&D spending. The reason we're able to do that, is because of it's a profit driven system. The reason we're abl More..

  • Don't listen to your BS pundits about health care - listen to your doctors!

Seems sensible but punditry creates, grows and entrenches stupidity. "Listen to your doctors!" has to be said over and over to counteract the effect of BS pundits.

  • All Romney will have to do once elected is continue granting waivers. So far there have been over 1200 waivers granted. Obama has shown us that the president gets to choose which laws will be enforced, and which laws will be ignored.
