I believe that the driver was just getting clear of the accident scene so emergency personnel had the room they needed. My hats off to him if this is the case, most drivers just hop out and gawk at the carnage, by the time the EMT's are there they are boxed in and cant get the hell out of the way.

In Canada, it is a crime to leave a scene of an Accident, specially like this one will be fined. But a human with pure common sense to help a person is more wise, than taking off.
